Mission Lane is combining the power of data, technology, and exceptional service to pave a clear way forward for millions of people on the path to financial success. By attracting top talent and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we’re enabling people to unlock real financial progress. Sound like a mission you can get behind?

We re looking for a Principal Business Analyst, Fraud to design and test the defenses that stop fraudulent applications, reporting to the Director, Fraud.

The impact you ll make:

Right now, someone is filling out an application for their first credit card, hoping it s the start of something they can build on. Fraudsters have learned to mimic that same hope on paper. A thin credit file and a stolen identity can look nearly identical on the surface, and the line between them shifts as fraud tactics evolve. You ll build and test the logic that draws that line, making sure the real applicant gets a fair, fast answer, and the fraudster doesn’t get a credit card.

Mission Lane is still young, but we ve landed in an exciting, stable stretch of maturation. We re still building but we ve already got a solid foundation. There s never been a better time to learn and grow right along with us.

As Principal Business Analyst, Fraud, you will:

Dig into application data to independently identify emerging fraud patterns and surface vulnerabilities before they scale.
Design, build, and run A and Champion/Challenger tests to develop new real-time defenses against fraudulent applications.
Balance risk and customer experience by translating test results into thoughtful, data-backed recommendations.
Build and maintain dashboards that track defense performance against coverage, applicant friction and abandonment, and losses.
Partner with Operations, Product, Data Science, and Engineering to continuously sharpen fraud detection capabilities.
Mentor less experienced analysts on the team as they build their own fraud analytics judgment.

You ll thrive in this role if:

You re comfortable working on an undefined problem. Application fraud data rarely comes with a clean hypothesis attached, and you enjoy framing the question as much as answering it.
You know how to tell the story behind your analysis, not just report the numbers.
You take ownership of your conclusions and can defend them under scrutiny, while always staying open to being wrong.

Minimum qualifications:

2+ years of experience in a highly analytical role (e.g., risk, business analytics, data science), with the majority of that experience spent working directly with data rather than individual case decisioning.
Experience conducting analytical work with credit cards or other consumer lending products.
Hands-on experience designing and executing A or Champion/Challenger testing within an application or risk funnel.
Proven ability to independently frame an ambiguous question, form a hypothesis, analyze the data, and defend the answer with stakeholders.
Strong familiarity with SQL, Python, or other tools for data analysis.
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar quantitative field with a record of strong academic performance.
Ability to travel ~4-6+ times per year for high quality in person collaboration.

Preferred qualifications:

Direct experience in Fraud Strategy and Analytics.
Expertise in SQL and Python.
Experience helping scale a business in a fast-paced startup environment.

Compensation:
Annual full-time starting base salary range: $118,000-$135,000.

This role is eligible for additional compensation in the forms of participation in our annual incentive and equity programs.

Pay is based on factors such as work experience, education, certification(s), training, skills, and competencies related to the role. Mission Lane also offers a comprehensive benefits plan, which includes paid time off, 401(k) match, a monthly wellness stipend, health/dental/vision insurance options, disability coverage, paid parental leave, flexible spending account (for childcare and healthcare), life insurance, and a remote-first work environment.

About Mission Lane:

Founded in December 2018, a Mission Lane is a purpose-driven fintech company based in the U.S., with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

It all started with a realization: nearly fifty percent of the adult population in the U.S. doesn’t have access to a clear line of credit. Most traditional credit card companies either overlook or overcharge this group because they have less-than-perfect credit scores or no scores at all. We decided this just wouldn’t do.

In partnership with our sponsor banks, we offer credit cards under the Mission Lane brand name, with better, clearer terms, and a more refined customer experience than the alternatives available to people working hard to improve their credit. To date, over four million consumers have chosen Mission Lane, earning high customer ratings on Credit Karma for its market segment and industry leading Net Promoter scores.

Mission Lane has cumulatively raised over $600 million of equity from leading investors, including Invus Opportunities, QED Investors, LL Funds, funds affiliated with Oaktree Capital Management, and other leading investors.

Our commitment to a workplace built on respect and dignity is guided by our core value of Unity. We believe that everyone plays a vital role in our shared purpose, and we actively cultivate an environment where all individuals have the opportunity to do their best work.
