AI Governance & GRC Fellowships

A fellowship is one of the few ways into AI governance that does not ask for experience in AI governance. Think tanks, universities, foundations and public-interest organizations use fellowships to bring in lawyers, auditors, engineers and policy people, pay them to learn the field, and put their names on published work.

They run for part of a year rather than all of it, and the stipends are modest: a fellow is often paid around eighteen thousand dollars and a senior fellow around twenty-five. What they are worth is not the stipend. A fellowship gives you published work, an institutional affiliation and a network in a field where almost nobody has credentials yet, which is exactly the problem most career changers are trying to solve.
