ARIVE, a mortgage fintech platform, is seeking a Director of Product for AI Underwriting to own the governance and validation of its AI-driven underwriting engine. This is a rules-and-compliance role at the center of automated mortgage decisioning: the director reviews, tests, and verifies ARIVE's AI underwriting rules against the agency guides and each investor's guidelines and overlays, approves rules before release, and re-verifies them as guidelines change.

The role verifies the AI agents' autonomous actions with the same rigor expected of a senior human underwriter, ensuring every automated issue resolution is correct and guideline-compliant. It works directly with lender credit and underwriting teams, and with the agencies where applicable, to confirm rule accuracy, reconcile interpretation differences, and maintain lender-specific rule sets as the source of truth. The director owns Pre-Underwrite outputs end to end, including audit findings, checklists, conditions, and the agents' autonomous issue resolutions, triaging errors and driving root-cause fixes. The work also includes reviewing prompts, reasoning about agent behavior, and contributing to model and agent evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Deep, demonstrated experience in detailed underwriting analysis, including full-file review across income, asset, credit, and collateral disciplines at senior scope
  • 10+ years in mortgage underwriting and/or agency credit policy; a bachelor's or master's degree is a strong plus
  • Mastery of agency guidelines, including the Fannie Mae Selling Guide, Freddie Mac Seller/Servicer Guide, and FHA Handbook 4000.1, with VA and USDA experience valued and Non-QM underwriting experience strongly preferred
  • Wholesale/TPO or correspondent lending background strongly preferred, including collaboration with lender underwriters, account executives, and setup teams
  • Working knowledge of AI and LLM platforms and tools, with the ability to review prompts, reason about agent behavior, and contribute to evaluations

Location and market context

This role is based in San Ramon on-site. Local candidates benefit from being close to ARIVE's teams and regional hiring market. Confirm the exact in-office expectation and any relocation support with the employer.

About AI governance roles

AI governance sits at the intersection of policy, risk, and engineering. Teams are standing up model inventories, use-case intake and review, risk classification, and control monitoring as regulation and board scrutiny of AI intensify. Roles like this one are typically evaluated against frameworks such as NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, the EU AI Act, and internal model-risk and privacy practices.

How to position yourself for this AI governance role

Strong candidates emphasize experience translating policy into operational controls, working across legal, compliance, security, product, and data teams, documenting AI system risks, and supporting governance processes. In your resume and outreach, tie your experience to how ARIVE would apply NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, the EU AI Act, and internal model-risk and privacy practices, and lead with concrete outcomes rather than duties.
