The Candidate Data Pledge
Your resume is not training data. Sign the standard the job board industry should have written years ago.
You uploaded a resume to find a job. You did not volunteer to train an AI.
Across the industry, job boards have quietly rewritten their terms to turn your career history into training data, to score and sort you behind a black box, and to keep your file long after you are gone. That has to change.
We, the undersigned, demand that every job board meet four standards:
- Consent before training. No job board uses your resume, profile, or history to train AI models unless you explicitly opt in.
- Transparency over the black box. If an automated tool scores, ranks, or filters applicants, the job board discloses how it works and publishes its bias audit, consistent with laws like New York City Local Law 144 and the EU AI Act.
- The right to be forgotten. One click removes your data from their systems within 72 hours, permanently. No shadow profiles, no warehoused resumes.
- No selling or sharing. Your career history is never sold, licensed, or handed to third-party data brokers, with or without your consent.
"Silence is not consent."
Every job board offers the same deal, they just never say it out loud: hand us the most sensitive record of your working life, let us train our AI on it, show it to strangers, judge you with a machine you can't see. In return? You get to apply.
We said no.
Your data is yours. We never train on it, never sell it, never hide how the call gets made, and you can erase it in one click. The technology to do this right has been here for years. The will hadn't. Now it has.

We already operate this way. We are setting this standard today, and we are asking the rest of the job board industry to do the same.
As this movement grows, we will formally deliver these demands directly to the executive leadership of major job boards. We will also submit this petition to the regulatory bodies actively writing and enforcing the rules on automated employment tools, including the Federal Trade Commission and state Attorneys General.
