Why Taiwan is a serious GRC market
Most country guides on a job board are thin. Taiwan is not, because Taiwan carries a governance load out of all proportion to its size. The island manufactures the advanced semiconductors that almost every other industry now depends on, which makes Taiwanese firms and their suppliers subject to the compliance demands of customers and regulators in the United States, the European Union, Japan and Korea simultaneously.
That produces a specific and unusually senior kind of GRC work: export control and trade compliance, supply chain and third-party risk, intellectual property protection, operational resilience, and increasingly the governance of AI systems used inside manufacturing and design.
What drives hiring
- Semiconductor supply chain compliance. Export controls, customer audits, and the security expectations that come attached to advanced manufacturing.
- The Personal Data Protection Act (個人資料保護法, commonly 個資法), Taiwan's data protection statute.
- The Cyber Security Management Act (資通安全管理法), which reaches government bodies and designated critical infrastructure providers, and through them their suppliers.
- The Ministry of Digital Affairs (數位發展部), Taiwan's digital policy ministry, and its cyber security administration.
- The Financial Supervisory Commission (金管會), which supervises banking, insurance and securities, where compliance and internal audit headcount is steady.
- Cross-border data transfer, because Taiwanese operations of multinationals sit inside group-wide privacy programmes written to GDPR expectations.

Certifications Taiwanese employers ask for
The credentials that appear most often in Taiwanese job specifications are international rather than local: CISSP, CISA, CISM, the CIPP family for privacy, ISO/IEC 27001 lead auditor, and increasingly ISO/IEC 42001 for AI management systems.

Working remotely from Taiwan
A meaningful share of GRC work is remote, and Taiwan's time zone works well for roles anchored in Singapore, Japan, Korea and Australia, and awkwardly for roles anchored on the US east coast.
