ISO/IEC 42001 (AI Management System) Jobs
ISO/IEC 42001 is the first certifiable management-system standard for artificial intelligence, the AI counterpart to ISO 27001.
ISO/IEC 42001:2023, published in December 2023, is the first international standard for an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS), and the first that an organization can be independently certified against. It does for AI what ISO/IEC 27001 did for information security: it specifies the management system, the policies, roles, risk and impact assessments, controls, and continual improvement, that an organization puts around the way it develops and uses AI.
Because it is certifiable, ISO 42001 is becoming the way companies prove their AI governance to customers, partners, and regulators rather than just asserting it. It aligns with the NIST AI RMF and supports EU AI Act conformity, so it often sits at the center of a multi-framework program. Demand is rising fast for people who can build an AIMS, run AI impact assessments, and carry a company through certification.
ISO/IEC 42001: Frequently Asked Questions
What is ISO/IEC 42001?
It is the international standard, published in December 2023, that specifies requirements for an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS). It is the first AI standard an organization can be certified against.
How is ISO 42001 different from the NIST AI RMF?
ISO 42001 is a certifiable management-system standard with formal requirements, while the NIST AI RMF is a voluntary, principles-based framework. Many organizations use the RMF to operate and ISO 42001 to certify.
Can a company be certified to ISO 42001?
Yes. Unlike most AI frameworks, ISO/IEC 42001 supports independent third-party certification, which is why companies use it to demonstrate AI governance to customers and regulators.
