Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is hiring for this Risk job in Multiple Locations, one of the metros GRC Careers tracks for governance, risk, and compliance hiring.

The Financial Institution Specialist (FIS) position in the Division of Risk Management Supervision (RMS) is geared towards becoming a commissioned bank examiner. FISs participate on work assignments located in and outside of the employee's official duty station. To learn more about the FIS position, click here: Financial Institution Specialist | FDIC.gov. Qualifications: Qualifying experience is credited from private and public sectors, including paid and unpaid service (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). Volunteer service builds competencies that translate to paid work. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience. See OPM's General Schedule Qualification Standards for details. To be eligible for appointment under the Recent Graduate Hiring Authority, applicants must meet requirement A or B: A) Applicants who have completed a bachelor's or graduate degree from a Qualifying Educational Institution within the previous two years or students who anticipate graduating Spring 2027 that included: (a) completion of a major course of study in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing or other related fields; (b) completion of at least 24 semester hours of combined course work in business administration, accounting, finance, marketing, mathematics, statistics, or economics that included at least 6 semester hours in accounting; OR B) Veterans who have completed a bachelor's or graduate degree from a Qualifying Educational Institution and have an intervening period of obligated service of at least four years in the uniformed services. The two-year eligibility period begins on the date of discharge or release from the uniformed service. In addition to meeting the eligibility listed above, you must also meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Applicants may qualify based on education, work experience, or a combination, as follows: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CG-5 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Applying accounting or auditing principles and practices in the review or examination of financial institutions, with an understanding of the Federal and State laws that govern them. OR Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement, meet any one of the following: GPA: Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or GPA of 3.0 or higher for your final 2 years of undergraduate study; OR Major GPA: GPA of 3.45 or higher in your major, or 3.45 or higher in major courses taken during your final 2 years; OR Class Standing: Rank in the top one-third of your class (college, university, or major subdivision); OR Honor Society: Membership in a national honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) (excludes freshman-only societies). Note: OPM guidance rounds GPAs to one decimal place (e.g., 2.95 = 3.0; 2.94 = 2.9). OR Graduate Level Education: One full academic year of graduate study in a field related to the position, leading toward a master's degree. OR Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: Applicants may meet CG-07 qualifications through a combination of completed post-secondary coursework and directly related experience. The combination must demonstrate competency in collecting and evaluating financial data and accurately interpreting balance sheets and income statements. Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the qualification requirements above, you must meet the following selective factor: Ability to effectively communicate in writing as evidenced by using proper grammar to compose written documents which are clear, concise, thorough, and free of spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors. Candidates must demonstrate that they meet the Selective Placement Factor by passing a structured writing assessment.
